How to Get Blog Sponsorship Opportunities?

As you may know, I started giving a serious attention to this blog a few months ago. Things are still in the beginning and the picture is not yet clear; However, I managed to get blog sponsorship opportunities and guess what? I got paid for it.

I wrote two sponsored posts over this month. I got paid for the first one which was a good addition to my current income stream ($50 USD). For the other sponsored post, I received a six month free product (worth $72 USD).

Blog sponsorship opportunities are the best ways to monetize your blog and get paid for. One thing you need to consider and put in mind is to promote products you love and fits your blogging style. It won’t make any sense to launch a tech-blog and promote a fashion brand!

If you’re blogging for a while and didn’t yet get a sponsored post offer, then this article is the perfect fit for you. I will walk you through how I landed my first sponsored post along with answering a couple of vital questions you may have thought about.

I will make sure to illuminate and simplify the process for you. If you followed my recommendation checklist in this post, I guarantee that you will land blog sponsorship opportunities within 30 days or less.

Let’s dive in:

What is a Sponsored Blog Post?

blog sponsorship opportunities

Sponsored blog post simply means a post that is mainly dedicated to promoting other’s product or service. Let’s say you blog about “fashion and shopping” and you’re serious about it. Most likely, a couple of brands will reach out to you asking for a sponsored post on your blog.

They don’t want you to just put an ad or banner on your blog pages. They don’t want you to copy some text from their website and collect them into an irrelevant blog post on your blog. No, they won’t pay you for these spamming techniques.

When brands are offering blog sponsorship opportunities, they are looking for your words. They are asking for a genuine blog post talking about your experience with this brand, how you see them as a brand you love and a personal recommendation to your readers and followers.

Unless this brand is a one you love and fits your blogging style, do not accept it. It will not only piss off your readers but also may cause a dramatic effect on your followers and subscribers numbers.

Why Brands offer
Blog Sponsorship Opportunities?

Whether you’re a newbie blogger or an expert one, brands are consistently looking for you. They’re looking to reinvest their earnings into advertising and offering blog sponsorship opportunities for several online blogs and platforms.

You may think now why they may do so? Why they pay bloggers to write content about their brand? Let me give you a couple of reasons:

  1. To get word of mouth from influencers.
  2. To reach new audience & accordingly, make more sales.

How I Landed My First Sponsored Blog Post?

How I Made $122 Writing Two Sponsored Posts In 15 Days? #Blogging

A few weeks ago, I got an invitation from a brand new marketing agency asking me to join their affiliation program for a 20% commission rate on every referral sale. I loved to be reached out by this brand because I got to know that my marketing strategy is working and yet they considered my blog.

In such cases, DO NOT hard sell yourself by replying to their email offering to write a sponsored post for money. Instead, reply back asking for a Skype conference call to break the ice and get to know about their product.

I scheduled a Skype call with the agency’s CEO and that was really awesome. We went over a couple of points regarding their product. I made sure to be a good listener at the beginning. People love to be listened to.

I got a clear idea about the product. I then asked for a limited trial to test things and see how it works. They happily provide that for me and walked me through every single point on their website’s dashboard.

I decided that this product will be seriously helpful to my readers and I loved it myself. At that time, I decided to pitch my blog to them and see how it will work. I suggested the idea of writing a sponsored blog post about the product with screenshots, links, and more.

I talked to them how my massively growing blog will help their brand to gain more awareness especially as it’s a brand new agency in the market. I told them about my marketing strategy, and how this blog post will give assurance to those considering using their product.

They happily accepted my offer, and the CEO couldn’t wait to see the post. I wrote it down based on a personal in-depth experience. I entitled it as a product review to give it more credit. They liked it very much. They paid me for the sponsored blog post and I hit publish.

How to Get Sponsored Posts for your Blog?

I don’t have dozens of social media followers, I don’t make thousands of page views per month on this blog, I’m just blogging for three months, and I got paid $122 USD from blog sponsorship opportunities in just 15 days.

Believe me; you too don’t need these numbers to land your first sponsored post. All you need is dedication, commitment, and persistence. In order to be considered for a sponsored post offer, you need to guarantee the following:

  • You’re blogging at least four times a month: It’s not good at all for a brand to visit your blog and see that you didn’t publish new blog posts over the last three weeks. The first impression is that you’re not committed to this blog.
  • Write about yourself, your life, and things you care about: Brands are not looking for a generic blog where the blogger is posting general posts for the sake of money or advertisements. Instead, they’re looking for those influencers who are writing about their journeys and how they do things out of their personal thoughts and experience. Personalization is the real core of blogging.
  • Make Sure You Have a Strong Blog Setup: You need to go over your blog setup, revise every little corner and make sure your blog is 100% complete and ready to go. You need to have a detailed about page telling your readers and brands about who are you and what you’re doing. You also need to create a functioning contact page to make it easy for brands to contact you.
  • Increased Engagement is Awesome: The brand likes to invest onto your blog as they need to make more sales and reach a new audience. You need to work on a clear strategy to increase engagement. For first timers, Engagement means shares and comments. One of the great ways to increase engagement on your blog is to comment on other blogs.

When Not To Accept Sponsored Posts?

how to get sponsored posts for your blog

I told you exactly how I earn blog sponsorship opportunities and how you can do too in 30 days or even less. Now, it’s time to get you perfectly equipped on when you shouldn’t accept sponsored content offers.

  • Don’t Put Dofollow links: All links that are going to brand’s websites should be “no follow” links. If the brand asks you to put “do follow” links instead, just turn them down and run away. Google will penalize your site if you do, and this is not very good for your site’s SEO ranking.
  • Promote Products You Love or Tried Before: Do not take the first sponsored post offer you receive if it doesn’t comply with your blogging style. Make sure you’re true to yourself and only write about products you love, tried before, and personally recommend.
  • It’s better to put a relationship declaration: Regardless of where you’re based, I would strongly recommend being transparent about the relationship between you and the brand. You may mention something like “I’ve received a compensation for this post; however, all thoughts and opinions are my own “. Decline the brand’s offer if they ask you not to mention the relationship.

Wrapping Up:

You’re a few clicks away to land your very first sponsored post. You’ve learned how to set up your blog to be ready to accept sponsored content offers. You’ve been told when to accept and when to reject spamming sponsored content offers.

I made sure to tell you about my whole experience on how I landed my first sponsored post and got paid for it. I also guarantee that you’ll easily land yours easily within the next 30 days if you followed the above-mentioned lists.

As long as you promote products you love and tried before, Sponsored content could be a great addition to your monthly income stream.

  1. great post! I wanted to ask you are do follow links like affiliate links? the way you describe it looks like it’s the same to me. So Does that mean affiliate links are not good for blogging too?!

  2. You write an awesome post on paid posting. But its difficult to got such kinds of offer as real offer. Most of the offer is for getting backlink from my website. You already said that backlink is bad for Google page rank. Another problem is visitors. If the sponsored want to share his sales commission with you, you may need more visitors. Thanks for your post. I think your post is complete guideline for paid post/sponsor post.

  3. I believe google don’t allow sponsored posts in blog? or if they caught they can ban the blog?
    These are just my thoughts.

    1. Danielle,
      Thanks alot for your comment.

No-Follow links are normal links but with a no-follow attribute added in the link. This way you’re telling the search engines (like: Google, and Bing) do not follow this link, or do not find me backlinking to this site.

If you’re willing to do a sponsored post, then make sure you add your sponsor links with a no follow attribute. Because if this website becomes spammy or blacklisted on Google and Search engines you don’t get penalized too as being backlinking to spammy sites.

Plus, Google may penalize your website if you add do-follow backlinks on your website and get paid for it in return. I would recommend that you check this page from Google about the no-follow and do-follow links: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/96569?hl=en

The no-follow link is looking as follows:
      a href=”signin.php” rel=”nofollow

      Thanks for reading,
      Karim
